Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park Desert Safari – 8 Day

The Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park is situated in the North Western part of South Africa and Botswana. The landscape is a mix of arid savannah and desert scrublands. The main attractions here are the famous black-maned Kalahari lions which are taller and far more attractive than other lions. There is also a variety of wildlife and unique flora. Gemsbok, cheetah, leopard, red-hartebeest, springbok, hyena and jackal are the highlights of the animal kingdom and for birding enthusiasts there are a lot of endemic species. The star-scapes in the night are unparalleled and for the star trail photographer this is paradise.

Day 1: We start from Upington in the early hours and make the gates well in time for an early brunch at Twee Rivieren the gateway to the Kgalagadi. Check in and off we go for our first taste of the magical Kgalagadi. Back at camp closing for dinner and an early night.
Day 2: Packed and all set we are off to Mata Mata. Watch the road for lion and cheetah and the special Kori bustard, the worlds’ heaviest flying bird. Get to camp by lunch time, check in and take a little break. The Kgalagadi gets warm in the afternoon. Post lunch and a short rest we are off again on the hunt for some great pictures and super memories-to-be.
Day 3: Safari all day from Mata Mata. Take a night drive with SANParks and sample the night in the desert.
Day 4: Safari all day from Mata Mata. Be ready to leave with all our gear tomorrow.
Day 5: Today we check out and head out on long drive to Camp Nossob, situated in the Nossob river bed. Don’t worry the river only flows once in 100 years. This is the lion hub and we are going to trust our luck for some awesome sightings. Check in and overnight.
Day 6: Safari all day from Nossob. Tonight we will go on a night drive with SANParks trying to seek the animals of the night.
