Pantanal Jaguar & Macaws Photo Safari – 12 Days
The elusive jaguar. Witnessing this majestic Jaguar in its natural habitat is the opportunity of a lifetime. The natural region of Pantanal, Brazil, encompasses the world’s largest tropical wetlands and the world’s largest flooded grasslands.
This is the prime location to see the wonders of South America. On this photo safari, you’ll gain a deeper appreciation for the power of both flora and fauna, spotting the natural wonders of Pantanal and stay on the lookout for the mighty jaguar. Other species that we will lookout for and photograph include tapirs, capybaras, caimans, black howler monkeys, jabiru storks, herons, capuchin monkeys, coatis, anteaters, toucans and macaws.
Itinerary
Transfer from Cuiabá to Hotel Porto Jofre
Departure from Cuiabá, early in the morning, to the Pantanal region. On the way, we pass through the gateway to the northern Pantanal, through the city of Poconé. At this point, we immediately embark on a journey across Transpantaneira highway. This includes several stops to observe the abundant wildlife and capture them through photography. After arriving at your lodge, we’ll check-in and enjoy lunch. It’s then time to explore the lodge’s surroundings by boat, or mounted on horseback (the choice is yours). Dinner and an overnight stay follows.
Lodge to Port Jofre by Panoramic Boat
After enjoying an early breakfast, we drive down the Transpantaneira highway to its end, a place called Porto Jofre. Here, we check in to a boat-hotel or land-hotel, in the vicinity of the Meeting of the Waters State Park. After lunch, we go out in search of jaguars by boat, spotting other wildlife like giant river otters, capybaras, caimans, iguanas, and a variety of bird species. It’s a photographer’s haven, ending with the Pantanal’s famous blood-red and vanilla-golden sunset sky.
Jaguar & Wildlife Expedition
Breakfast is followed by a boat trip. Explore this remote region of the world, looking out for the wondrous wildlife and stunning natural features. Lunch is followed by the continued search for jaguars and other fascinating wildlife species, until sunset. Dinner and overnight stay follows.

Transfer from Porto Jofre to Mato Grosso Hotel
After breakfast, we leave Port Jofre behind, heading on to Pantanal Mato Grosso Hotel half way along the Transpantaneira highway. After checking-in, we enjoy lunch and a much needed siesta in your air-conditioned room. There are spectacular sights to be seen with a variety of the region’s animals including capuchin monkeys, coatis, anteaters, toucans, tapirs, and blue macaws, among others. After dinner, we embark on a night safari.
Northern Pantanal
After breakfast, we take an ecological outing, hoping to spot the plentiful species of wild animals. The highlight of this trip are the splendid bird species. Take in the unspoiled, open horizons of the Pantanal landscape, then return to the lodge for lunch and a respite from the day’s hottest period.
Enjoy a drive, or horseback ride (if you prefer), and keep your eyes open for tapirs, capybaras, caimans, black howler monkeys, jabiru storks, herons, capuchin monkeys, coatis, anteaters, toucans, blue macaws, and other amazing wildlife species.
Dinner is followed by a night safari and overnight stay.

After breakfast transfer to Cuiaba airport in time for your flight to Campo Grande.
Transfer to Jardim & Photographing Macaws
Arrive at Campo Grande airport in the early morning. Drive by car (approx. 3 – 3.5 hours) to the city of Jardim. In Jardim, we check in to the Estancia hotel where we have lunch Early morning we arrive at Campo Grande airport. From there we drive by car to the city of Jardim. The drive is approx. 3-3.5 hours. When we arrive at Jardim, we check-in the Estancia hotel. Here we will have lunch and then take a 20-minute drive to Buraco das Araras. The full afternoon will be spent photographing macaws at the area’s sinkhole. At around 5 p.m., we drive back to Jardim and enjoy dinner at the hotel
Full day photographing Macaws
Early breakfast and drive to Buraco das Araras. Arrive between 7am -7.30am. We walk to one of two platforms to enjoy the sounds of the Macaws and see the sun hit the sinkhole. The whole morning we will photograph the Macaws. We will have lunch at a nearby restaurant.
After lunch we return to Buraco das Araras. In the afternoon they we can enjoy them from the second platform which provides with great lighting in the afternoon. In the afternoon normally we see more flight movements from the macaws.
Full Morning Photographing Macaws
After an early breakfast, we drive to Buraco das Araras and arrive there between 7 and 7:30 a.m. The sounds of the macaws will be enjoyed from one of two platforms, as the sun illuminates the sinkhole. We’ll photograph these splendid birds throughout the morning, then have lunch at a nearby restaurant. After lunch, we return to the hotel.
Check-out is followed by a drive back to Campo Grande where you can board your flight.
