Black Leopard Photo Safari
Join us as we go in search of Africa’s rarest cat, the melanistic / black leopard.
The area, Laikipia is well away from the hustle and bustle of the Maasai Mara, and although there is no spectacle like that of the Great Migration, this area has some very interesting and unique species.
Firstly, black (melanistic) leopards. There are a few black leopards roaming the area and surrounding ranches, and there’s one particular individual around Laikipia Wilderness Camp which has in recent times become a celebrity in her own right. The young female leopard is slowly becoming habituated to the safari vehicles and is giving guests regular viewing, especially at night time. And of course, ‘regular’ leopards can also be seen in the area and perhaps a glimpse of the other black leopards that roam the area.
Other species of special interest in the area are Reticulated Giraffes, Grevy’s Zebras and Striped Hyaenas. These special species along with the black leopards in the area has the potential to provide wildlife photographers with images that stand out from the rest.
Lions, elephants, buffalos, hippos and wild dogs can also be seen in the area.
